"A community meeting was held to discuss the dangers of the Israeli curriculum infiltrating our schools.

Muna Al-Qawasmi/Elia Youth Media:

Parents of students in Jerusalem schools organized a community meeting in Beit Hanina on Thursday afternoon to discuss the dangers of introducing the Israeli curriculum into our schools. The parents, representatives of the Parents Committee Association and members of the National and Local Labor Organization in Jerusalem attended the meeting.

This meeting was held as part of the 'Cleaning Our Students' Schoolbags' campaign, of the Israeli curriculum, which the Parents Committee Association recently implemented. The campaign is expected to continue throughout all neighborhoods of the city.

Al-Shamali said that the Israeli attempt at judaizing the schools in Jerusalem does not only concern the curriculum, but also seeks to replace Jerusalemite teachers and principals with teachers and administrators from the Palestinian interior [pre-1967]. As of late, three principal from the Druze community were appointed to prestigious schools in Jerusalem. In the past two months, three Jewish teachers have been appointed in our Arab schools.

Al-Shamali warned of the implications of parents registering their children for the new school year through the Jerusalem municipality website, and specifically cautioned against the list of questions asked when registering their children.

He also noted that the Parents Committee Association will organize awareness-raising workshops for the students' families to inform them of the dangers this site entails and the implications of registering through the site.

Jerusalemite activist Abd Al-Latif Ghayth spoke in praise of the Parents Committee Association's initiative and the campaign that was carried out to combat the Israel-ization of Jerusalem schools. He stressed that the Parents Committee Association, students and official institutions need to coordinate their efforts in order to combat the Israeli attack on the schools in Jerusalem.

As he said, 'Every Jerusalemite knows very well the magnitude of the implications of Israel-izing Jerusalem and what cultural, conceptual, human and political threats it poses to our national and individual identities.'

The head of the Ministry of Education's Jerusalem Division Dima Samaan thanked the Parents Committee Association for the initiative and the ongoing cooperation with the Ministry of Education, as well as the nationalist members and the National and Local Labor Organization. She stressed the need to raise awareness among parents of the Israeli toxins distributed in our schools in their various forms, whether through curriculum, activities, trips and courses or other expressions of behavior, values and normalization.

'The danger in the Israeli curriculum stems from the fact that it focuses on our children as early as three years of age, in order to brainwash them. She pointed out the extent of the internal conflicts that accompany our students in schools in which they study the Israeli curriculum.'"
