Israelis Continue to Protest Outside PM’s Residence
"Last night [Saturday August 8, 2020] about 15,000 protesters stood in front of the Prime Minister's residence on Balfour Street. They were protesting against government corruption and against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The police blocked Gaza Street, Ben Maimon / Gaza to Paris Square, Paris Square Junction, Keren Hayesod, King George and Agron Street.
The ‘Black Flags’ movement stated before the protest that ‘tens of thousands of Israelis will demonstrate at about 300 locations across the country against the defendant Netanyahu under the headline: You failed, go home!’. They also stated ‘that after those protests, dozens of shuttle buses will drive from all over the country, from Kiryat Shmona to the Negev on their way to Balfour Street and to the defendant's home in Caesarea to demonstrate against those who failed in managing the economy and public health during the Corona crisis.’
The ‘Black Flags’ also said that this week the movement approached deputy police commissioner, Superintendent Moti Cohen, demanding the demonstrators’ safety. ‘Last week, the Israeli police failed and did not prevent 11 assaults,’ it was said. ‘We hope that although the police failed in their work, and that this week they watched Netanyahu's speech and listened to the murderer Avrushmi [1] yesterday and they understand that the demonstrators’ peace and security is in real danger.’”

[1] Yona Avrushmi killed left-wing activist Emil Grunzweig during a left-wing demonstration in Jerusalem 1983. He was released from prison after serving 27 years in 2011. Anti-Netanyahu protesters filed a police complaint against Avrushmi, citing incitement to murder, after he said inflammatory comments in a televised interview in August 2020.
