Haredim Protest in Meah Shearim
"Hundreds of Haredi Jews from the extremist factions demonstrated last night (Thursday July 23, 2020) in the Meah Shearim neighborhood [1] and on Bar Ilan Street [2] in Jerusalem. They were protesting the ongoing arrest of a young man suspected of assaulting a policewoman, after he spat at her. The demonstration marked 100 days since his arrest.
Starting at 10:30 p.m, the demonstrators blocked roads near Meah Shearim, and confronted the police. In the end, 13 protesters were arrested. Around midnight, the protesters moved to Bar Ilan Street, where they continued to set fire to garbage cans and drag them to the center of the road. The road was blocked to vehicles."

0202 Editor’s Notes:
[1] Meah Shearim is one of the oldest Jewish neighborhoods in Jerusalem and was built in the late 19th century. Today, Meah Shearim is an insular neighborhood in the heart of Jerusalem populated by Haredi Jews. Meah Shearim is also home to the extremist ‘Sikrikim’ and ‘Neturei Karta’ factions who are fiercely anti-Zionist and often oppose the presence of government employees in the neighborhood.
[2] Bar Ilan Street is a major road in northern Jerusalem that runs through a number of Haredi neighborhoods
