Coronavirus in Haredi Communities
“In Haredi neighbourhoods in Jerusalem: approximately one quarter of Coronavirus tests returned as positive
•Data from Jerusalem shows that a high number of cases of Coronavirus are coming from elderly Haredi neighbourhoods, most prominently Zichron Moshe and Shmuel HaNagid
• problematic plumbing in quarantine hotels
No less than 10% of all Coronaviurs tests taken by residents of Jerusalem in the last few days returned with a positive result, which points to the fact that these groups of people are carriers of the disease. This statistic stands out in comparison to the rest of the country, where the percentage of positive tests is only 6%.
From the data published on the rise in numbers, IDF reporter Yuval Segev wrote that there were five prominent neighborhoods with especially alarming data – most of them Haredi neighbourhoods.
We are referring to – in a decreasing order – the neighborhoods of Zichron Moshe, Shmuel HaNagid, Kiryat Baalza, Kiryat Chanz and Wadi Joz. The results of the positive Coronavirus tests in the area of Zichron Moshe and Shmuel HaNagid stand at 24% and Kiryat Baalza and Wadi Joz in the east of the city at 19%.
In light of this it should be noted that the number of Coronavius cases in East Jerusalem residents have almost doubled in the last 8 days, as it stands at the moment there are 1500 active cases.
The entire area of Romema was placed under lockdown, which resulted in huge protests. Despite this, Romema still has one of the highest proportion of Coronavirus cases, 13 people out of every 1000, slightly less than the area of Ramat Eshkol.
It was also reported by the IDF reporters, that some of the hotels which the municipality of Jerusalem designated as Coronavirus hotels are empty, due to water quality problems that were created as their plumbing was severely damaged when they were not active.”
