City Council Member Supports Protests

"Continue demonstrating – I support you [1].

In recent days, there have been calls from the far right to prohibit demonstrations on Balfour Street.

I am, of course, in favor of freedom of expression and demonstration. I am working constantly with the relevant parties in the municipality, from the Director of Enforcement, the General Director of the Municipality, to the Mayor, asking that they do not disrupt the demonstrators.

I was promised that they will not disturb the protesters and I hope they keep their promise. I work and will continue to work as much as I can to enable these important demonstrations."

[1] Thousands of Israelis are taking part in massive demonstrations on Balfour Street outside the Prime Minister’s residence, protesting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and demanding his resignation. Among the protestors are independent business owners who have been severely affected by the Corona crisis, protesting the lack of financial support from the state and the meager funds that they have received.
[2] Yosi Havilio is a member of Jerusalem's city council. He was a candidate for mayor in Jerusalem’s 2018 municipality elections. His campaign focused on the lack of pluralism in Jerusalem, high cost of living, and lack of employment opportunities.
