Released Palestinian Prisoner Talks about His Imprisonment

“Sultan Abu Al-Hums, released prisoner [1]:

Sultan Abu Al-Hums talks about his release after spending seven and a half years in the Occupation’s prisons, and how his family’s happiness was ruined after he was arrested and investigated immediately upon release.”
[Translation by Wadi Hilweh]

Translation of Video:
“I am Sultan Abu al-Hums. I spent seven years in the Occupation’s prisons. I was incarcerated when I was 19 and now again when I am 26 years old.
I spent years moving between prisons. The captives’ [2] conditions are very difficult and there’s medical negligence. I turn to the President who is working for Kamal Abu Wa’ar’s release [3] as well as freedom for all male and female captives.

As for the abuse by the occupying forces. After my release from the Negev Prison [Ketziot Prison], I was arrested once again, and transferred to Maskobia Prison. I was released on the conditions that I pay a10,000 NIS fine, that I am forbidden to enter Jerusalem, and that I stay away from Jericho for 5 days.”

0202 Editor’s Notes:
[1] Sultan Abu Al-Hums, a resident of Issawiya, an East Jerusalem neighborhood, was incarcerated due to his involvement in a stabbing incident that took place on the evening of Tisha B’Av in July 2013 at Nablus Gate.
For articles on the subject in Hebrew, see: https://katzr.net/c371e8
[2] Palestinians use the term captive and not prisoner as they see the situation as a political one. They see the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as an ongoing war. Thus the people imprisoned by Israel- for sometimes unpolitical reasons – are considered captives.
[2] Kamal Abu Wa’ar was arrested in the midst of the Second Intifada in 2003. He was an operative of Fatah’s military wing, and was involved in terrorist attacks against Israelis. He was recently diagnosed with cancer and was found positive for the coronavirus.
