Police Arrest East Jerusalemites for Firing Hundreds of Fireworks

"Police raid East Jerusalem
The Arab communities celebrated the announcement of the matriculation exams [Tawjihi] results by incessantly firing fireworks during Shabbat [Saturday] that were heard almost all over the capital. Nearly 200 firework sets were confiscated and dozens of suspects were arrested.

Police forces raided neighborhoods in East Jerusalem today (Saturday) [July 11, 2020] in order to prevent the continued firing of fireworks that shook the city over the weekend and caused many residents suffering and discomfort.
Large, covert and overt forces operated throughout the neighborhoods, detained and arrested 38 suspects who are now in police custody.
In addition, the police managed to thwart the continued use of the fireworks in various centers, and seized about 185* fireworks, which were held illegally.

Despite this, on social media among the residents, there was criticism of the police who failed to prevent the attack, but the police clarify: ‘The Israel Police was preparing over the weekend for the announcement of the matriculation exams results in East Jerusalem, with the intention of locating, preventing and arresting those who chose to turn the celebrations of joy into danger to the public by launching dangerous fireworks.’

The police added that, ‘The Israel Police will use all the means and tools at its disposal, in order to prosecute those suspects who chose to celebrate while risking their lives and risking the lives and property of the public.’ "
