Jerusalem Activist Criticizes Israel Police’s Conduct in Iyad al-Hallak’s Case

"I do not believe a single word from Israel Police regarding Iyad al-Hallak.

There’s not a chance that ‘all the cameras were not connected’. There used to be terrorist attacks and police attacks right around the Lions’ Gate area, and back then, oddly enough, the cameras were plugged in. Even this February there was an attempted stabbing there. The cameras worked well. We saw the film of the stabber running with a knife in his hand on the news that very same day. I remember that incident was also on a Saturday morning just like the shooting of Iyad al-Hallak, and the threat was ‘neutralized’ pretty quickly.

It has been a month and a half (!) since Iyad was shot to death. Since then we have not heard anything about it. Nothing nothing nothing. By the way, the guy who slapped Yehuda Glick [1] in the family's mourning tent – got arrested very quickly. That’s what happens when you attack a Jew.

The Israel Police is sweeping things under the rug in every possible way and doesn’t care what people say. Let's face it, it's going to be relatively smooth for them. Why? The only conclusion is that it is because he is an Arab. The lives of Arabs are less equal in this city. Correct me if I'm wrong.

This pains me terribly. Personally, it hurts me personally because I believe we still have some morals. It hurts because I understand the complexities and I am not in a hurry to shout and blame. It hurts because I know why there is a police presence and I remember other times where there were explosions and deaths in the city. But any claim of ours to some moral justification is simply null and void when they destroy human lives like that.

Jewish policemen shot an autistic Palestinian man here and move on quietly. It repulses me and I can’t look Arabs in the eye anymore, I swear.

0202 Editor’s Notes:
[1] Yehuda Glick is an American-Israeli Rabbi and previously served as a Member of Knesset for Likud. He campaigns for strengthening and expanding Jewish access to the Temple Mount, regularly leading delegations to the Temple Mount. Glick was attacked while paying a condolence visit to Iyad al-Halak’s family. To read a previous post about this see: https://bit.ly/3jeP9jJ
