[1] The Islamic Waqf is the religious endowment which essentially functions as the religious and civil administration of Al-Aqsa Mosque. Following the 1967 War in which Israel took control of the Old City of Jerusalem, the Israeli government decided to maintain Jordanian custodianship of the Waqf. Today Al-Aqsa Mosque is governed and funded jointly by the Jordanian Waqf and the Waqf of the Palestinian Authority.
[2] This is a phrase taught by the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) which Muslims say in times of hardship and difficulty.
