"Riot in Hadavidka Square

A young man passed away in his sleep. A rally was held in protest of performing an autopsy.

In HaDavidka Square, Jerusalem, a group of extremist Haredim are rioting for fear of an autopsy being performed on a 20-year old Haredi man, who passed away due to an unknown cause [1].

As was told to 'Kikar Hashabat,' the deceased had stayed over by his friends' apartment and, for reasons unknown, he did not wake up. When word of the tragedy began to spread and rumor was that the police were planning on performing an autopsy in order to investigate whether there was criminal activity, dozens of young extremist Haredi men gathered in the area, in order to prevent the transferal of the body.

Ultimately, the police were able to remove the body, under the guise of an ambulance evacuating a patient. The rioters then arrived at HaDavidka Square to continue protesting."

[Selected Comments:]
-"Cursing, hitting, making a mess, blocking traffic… all in the name of 'respect for the dead.' those meshuganas [yiddish for "nutcases"]"
-"Let the police leave the Haredim alone and take care of the Zionist cases. If the guy was murdered, it was God's will, and the murderer will be punished by God."

0202 Editor's Notes:
[1] Jewish law generally opposes any injury to a dead body, as a matter of respect. Today, different sectors hold varying views on the issue of performing an autopsy; most of the Haredi world tends to prevent it at all costs.
