Novy God is the Russian New Year, and refers to the Russian New Year's Eve and New Year's Day celebrations.
'Generation 1.5' is a group of young people who emigrated to Israel with their families from the former Soviet Union as young children. ‘Generation 1.5’ refers to an academic term used by sociologists to describe the phenomenon of migration of young children, who preserve their cultural background at home and learn to take on a new identity outside of home. Around 1 million people emigrated to Israel from the former Soviet Union in the 1990s, such that Russian Israelis have come to represent a significant sector in Israeli society.
