0202 – Points of View from Jerusalem

#0202_A_View_From_West_Jerusalem

"Dear Jerusalemites, Miriam (Mina) Jacobovitz, a lonely Holocaust survivor and a wonderful and unique woman died yesterday. Today at 5:30 PM there will be a funeral at the Jerusalem community funeral home in Givat Shaul. I hope as many people will come as possible to honor this special woman so that we can at least have a minyan [1]… <3 "

– Jerusalemites group

[Selected comments:]
– "I'm heartbroken 🙁 May her memory be blessed."
– "Blessed be the Judge of Truth [2]."

0202 Editor's Notes:
[1] In the Jewish religion, one can pray individually but it is always preferred to pray as part of a group of at least ten people (in traditional circles, ten men are required). This quorum is known as a 'minyan'. Some prayers require a minyan to be said, including the Kaddish prayer, which is said when someone dies. Thus, great efforts are made to ensure that a minyan is present for a funeral, in order to honor the deceased.
[2] "Blessed be the Judge of Truth" is a common Jewish term of condolence said when someone passes away.
