0202 – Points of View from Jerusalem

“Another accomplishment for Jerusalem!
Three years after the murder of Shira Banki (of blessed memory) at the Gay Pride Parade, [1] we understood that it was necessary to create a tolerant coalition of Jerusalem – comprised of the diverse, complex and unique fabric of this city. It started with ten organizations and today is a coalition of more than 50 activists and organizations.

Last Thursday, we reached another milestone; the city council voted to transfer a budget to the coalition. This means that tolerance organizations will now receive a budget from the Jerusalem municipality for their activities, which will only continue to grow. What great news!”

[1] The first center in Israel dedicated to handling legal issues regarding hate and incitement on the Internet, as well as a general struggle against hate and racism ,was opened in name of Shira Banki. Shira was stabbed to death by ultra-Orthodox extremist Yishai Schlissel during the Jerusalem Pride Parade in 2015.
