“Turkey owns 30,000 dunams [1] of land in Jerusalem:

After the United States’ decision recognizing Occupied Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and its intent on moving its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, Ottoman land archives reveal documents showing Turkey owns 30,000 dunams of land in Occupied Jerusalem.

According to records belonging to Sultan Abdul Hamid II [2], two properties in Occupied Jerusalem with a combined area of 30,000 dunams had been acquired by the late Sultan.

The Ottoman archives contain all documents pertaining to land ownership in the city of Jerusalem between the years 1516 and 1917; the Ottoman Empire [3] recorded all events that had occurred in Jerusalem, and all property transfers were recorded in individual records.”

[1] A dunam is a unit used to measure an area of land used by the Ottamans, and is still used in parts of the world today. A dunam of land is equivalent to 1000 square meters.
[2] Sultan Abdul Hamid II was the 34th Sultan of the Ottoman Empire and the last Sultan to exert effective control over the crumbling empire.
[3] The Ottoman Empire ruled over much of the Middle East, including the city of Jerusalem for over four centuries.
