0202 – Points of View from Jerusalem

#0202_A_View_From_Haredi_Jerusalem

“During the Passover holiday, a tech store in the ultra-orthodox neighborhood Meah Shearim, Jerusalem, was broken into. The culprit is probably affiliated with an extremist Haredi sect that opposes the use of technology. The store, which sells cellphones and phone accessories and has computers for public use, suffered intense damage. Only now were the store owners able to attain security footage.

Extremist Haredim from the neighborhood have been claiming that the store was a non-kosher internet cafe, with open internet. As a result, protests have been held near the store in the past few months, aiming to warn the public against entering. During Passover, the violence worsened, as extremists broke in to the store, broke the windows, sprayed stink gas, and threw in foul-smelling fish. ‘Extremists cannot be allowed to force their views on everyone through terror,’ says the store owner.”
