"Female Haredi accounting students claim that the Israeli Accountants Council has made accounting exams more difficult, in order for students to have to sign up for an additional fourth year of studies. The Council: “We reject these baseless accusations”:

Students finishing their bachelor degrees in accounting are facing two options: they must either take five committee exams, or continue for an additional year of training which exempts them from three out of the five exams. However, the fourth year costs around 30,000 NIS [$8,600] as opposed to a regular academic year at 10,000 NIS [$2,850].

The Female Haredi students who studied accounting for three years and tried to take one of the exams ('Finance 1') are struggling to pass the exam, claiming that the Council has intentionally made the test more difficult in order to force the students to sign up for a fourth year.

‘I know many girls that tried taking this test six or seven times and still didn’t pass it, and not because they weren’t experts in the subject. These girls have been working for years in this field of study, they have important responsibilities in their work places, and yet they cannot pass the test because of its high level. The success rate for this test stands at 35%, while other Council tests see a success rate of 70%. This is an intentional strategy,' a female Haredi student told ‘Kikar HaShabbat.’

‘While some people can afford the costly fourth year, there are still hundreds of Haredi students that cannot. What are these hundreds supposed to do? Moreover, the large majority of them are married with children and cannot simply devote more time to their studies.”
