#0202_A_View_From_West_Jerusalem
"I'm on a bus in the middle of nowhere in New England deep in thought before my lecture. I think of my childhood neighborhood – Armon HaNatziv – and it's official name of East Talpiot – in Jerusalem. Really, in East Jerusalem.
I remember my childhood in this neighborhood surrounded by Arab villages as wonderful.
But within the multitude (really, the tremendous amount) of children in my generation who grew up in the neighborhood, I don't know a single one of them who's stayed or returned to live there. Those that I still talk to can't imagine themselves living in their childhood neighborhood.
Outside of those friends, and I know people who are my age who have started living in this neighborhood in the past few years (those that have newly arrived) and I really wonder why this is?
And how much does it matter that the two Arab villages that surround the neighborhood, there the village's children stay for generation after generation."
