0202 – Points of View from Jerusalem

#0202_A_View_From_West_Jerusalem

“‘Holocaust Survivors Shape Remembrance and Build a State to Mark 70 Years in the State of Israel,’ is the central theme of Holocaust Remembrance Day this year.

From the day they arrived in Israel, survivors worked on two different tracks: shaping and preserving the memory of the Holocaust, and also contributing to society in many fields. Those who experienced the Holocaust themselves, understood its essence and knew how to document it for future generations. At the same time, survivors acclimated into Israeli society and their impact can be seen in every field.

Today, there are approximately 18,000 Holocaust survivors living in Jerusalem. Survivors who live in the Holy City rebuilt their lives after living through an inferno. We are all inspired by the strength of Holocaust survivors – those who witnessed the horrors of the Nazis and those who are a living testimony to the light that emanates from within, despite the horror of death.

One week before the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the State of Israel, we will remember the horrors, salute the survivors, and swear, never again. We will remember and not forget!”

– Hagit Moshe, Deputy Mayor and Responsible for Finance Portfolio
