The Rweidi family from Silwan has been fighting a legal battle over their home since the '90's against the Elad organization (Ir David Foundation, in English. Elad is an acronym in Hebrew for "to the city of David"), a Jewish group that seeks to strengthen the city's Jewish character. Elad claims the owner was absent abroad in 1967, making the land state property, so the family must be evicted.
