[1] Silwan is a predominantly Palestinian neighborhood on the outskirts of the Old City of Jerusalem. In 1991, a movement was formed to promote Jewish settlement in Silwan. Today there are a few hundred Jewish families living in the area amid approximately 55,000 Palestinians. Consequently, the town remains a flash point in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
