0202 – Points of View from Jerusalem

#0202_A_View_from_West_Jerusalem

April Fools West Jerusalem Digest:

“A hidden poem titled 'Shalom Matityahu' written in the handwriting of the national poet Chaim Nachman Bialik, was found in the archives.
Initially, it seems that this is a particularly lively protest poem with a feminist message, relative to the period it was written. It is possible that the ‘Matityahu’ referred to in the poem is Bialik himself, with a hint of Matityahu the Hasmonean [1]. We are certain that artists and singers of Israel will jump on our find and set it to music”.

[Free translation of the poem]:

Farewell Matityahu
Goodbye and thank you
And please don’t send me telegrams
I do not have the time to respond
If you will shout to me from below
I will call the British police.
Get yourself a life
Because you have no other choice.

April Fools!!”

[1] Matityahu the Hasmonean is one of the central characters of the Hanukkah story. He fought for Jewish religious and political independence against the Greeks.
