[1] Land Day is on March 30. On that day in 1976, Arab society in Israel announced a general strike and demonstrations against the decision of the first Rabin government to confiscate land belonging to Arab citizens in the Galilee in 1976.
About the recent events:
Six people were shot dead by IDF forces and two by the police, three of whom were killed in Sakhnin, and have since been singled out among Israeli Arabs as a symbol of struggle against what some perceive as discriminatory policies of Israeli governments.
