"Will rabbis approve allied health profession studies for girls?

As revealed by ‘B’Hadrei Haredim’, the main focus of Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah [1] this Sunday was the subject of academic studies in Haredi seminaries [2]. Allied health professional studies currently takes place inside the halls of schools only, which have been prohibited by rabbis. What has recently come up in seminaries is the need for more professions to be offered to seminary girls. This need has led to a breakthrough, and there are currently steps being taken to receive permission. Allied Health Professions will give Haredi girls a chance to build careers as speech therapists, physical therapists, nurses and much more. Until now, in medical centers located in Haredi areas, these jobs would be taken by Dati Leumi women with academic degrees. Now, if Seminaries get approval from the Council for Higher Education, Haredi women will be able to study a much wider range of studies. This will hopefully block the steady flow of Haredi girls to academia."

[2] Seminaries – post-highschool establishments for Haredi girls, focusing mainly on torah studies. Some offer professional certificates for a limited array of subjects, such as a teacher’s certificate.
