“IRS Inspectors Attacked in Meah Shearim [1]

While visiting Havakouk St. in Meah Shearim, IRS inspectors were attacked by an angry mob, yelling and throwing objects [at the inspectors]. The inspectors conducting their tax investigation, which involved closing a number of stores in the neighborhood, enraged the protesters. Their anger was directed against the ‘Zionist Establishment’ for targeting the neighborhood residents. A commotion ensued, garbage cans were burned and the area was blocked off from traffic. The investigators called the police, and a patrol car came to their rescue.” [2]

[2] This is not the first time violence has broken out in such an incident. Last Thursday, IRS inspectors who visited the Meah Shearim market were received with shouts and stone-throwing, until they were forced to leave the neighborhood.
