"The largest Megilas Esther in the world was displayed near the Kotel last Friday in honor of Purim, giving visitors a chance to read a kosher Megilla on parchment ."
0202 Editor's Notes:
Megilas Esther is also known as the Book of Esther and is one of books in the Hebrew Bible. It documents the story of Purim which is a Jewish holiday that commemorates the survival of the Jewish people in ancient Persia when they were threatened by a government sanctioned genocide. The Book of Esther is read aloud in synagogues during the Purim holiday.
In Judaism, holy texts such as Torah scrolls and the Book of Esther must be written on parchment in order to be considered fit for ritual use.
