0202 – Points of View from Jerusalem

"Closing the circle on the train tracks:

As the chairman of Israel Railways, I envisioned the construction of a fast train to Jerusalem [1]. In a historic decision from the board of directors at the end of 2003, this vision was set to become a reality. Today, I saw with my own eyes the fulfillment of my dream as I toured the new train station at the entrance to Jerusalem. This is how Jerusalem becomes stronger and more accessible to the rest of the country."

– Moshe Lion [2]

0202 Editors' Notes:
[1] The fast train between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv is expected to reduce the commute time between the two cities from 70 minutes by bus, to 28 minutes by train. The line was due to commence operations at the end of March, but has been delayed by a further six months.
[2] Moshe Lion has been a member of the Jerusalem municipality since 2013. He served as director-general of the Prime Minister's Office from 1997-1999 as well as Chairman of the Israel Railways.
