"The Jordanian government condemns Israel's freeze on all renovations and renovation works at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, labeling it as a 'provocative behavior'.

Jordan's Minister of Communications and Spokesman, Muhammad Al-Mumni, said in a statement that Jordan condemned the Israeli authorities' demand that the Waqf administration stop all maintenance and renovation works at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, threatening to arrest any Waqf personnel on duty.

The Waqf administration in Jerusalem belongs to the Ministry of Endowments and Matters of the Islamic Holy Places in Jordan.

Al-Mu'mani stressed that all issues pertaining to the Al-Aqsa Mosque are under the authority of the Waqf administration in Jerusalem in accordance with international law and international human rights law. Moreover, the Occupation authorities should have no place in matters relating to maintenance and renovation work in the mosque.

The Jordanian minister expressed "the absolute opposition of the [Jordanian] kingdom to the provocative and indecent conduct," adding that "Jordan intends [to] continue to bear responsibility for defending the holy sites of Islam and Christianity in Jerusalem."

Jordan is defined as the guardian of the Islamic holy sites and Christians in Jerusalem and maintains these places in accordance with the 1994 Jordan-Israel peace treaty."
