“Occupation police notified the Islamic Waqf [1] in Jerusalem on Tuesday [January 16, 2018] that they are prohibiting all renovation work to Al-Aqsa Mosque and its facilities.
Firas A-Dibs, the spokesperson for the Islamic Waqf, stated that an Israeli police officer stormed into the Al-Aqsa construction office and informed the architect [and deputy manager] Taha Eweidah that reconstruction work on Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock was ‘prohibited.’ This included work on the mosaics [inside the mosques] and on the wooden roof, as well as reconstruction work on the doors of Al-Aqsa and any other of the mosque’s facilities.
In addition, the Israeli police officer informed the construction office that if any of the mosque workers violated the prohibition order, police would arrest the deputy manager of construction Taha Eweidah.”

0202 Editor’s Note:
[1] The Islamic Waqf essentially functions as the religious and civil administration of Al-Aqsa Mosque Compound (Haram Al-Sharif). Following the 1967 war in which Israel took control over the Old City of Jerusalem, the Israeli government decided to maintain Jordanian custodianship of the Waqf. Today, the Haram Al-Sharif is governed and funded jointly by the Jordanian Waqf and the Waqf of the Palestinian Authority.
