מנכ"ל [מנהלת] ההקדשים האיסלאמיים בירושלים וענייני מסגד אל-אקצא מבקש להודות מקרב לב לבישוף הכנסייה האוונגליסטית הלותרנית בירדן ובארץ הקודש, ד"ר מוניב יונאן, על עמדתו של הבישוף ועל הבהרתו ב-17 בדצמבר, כי אוונגליסטים התומכים בהחלטת טראמפ בעניין ירושלים עושים זאת בניגוד לתנ"ך. יונאן הצהיר: "העמדה של כנסיותינו הנוצריות ברחבי העולם היא שיש לתמוך בצדק ובשלום בירושלים." עם זאת, יונאן התעקש כי "הנוצרים מתמודדים גם עם קבוצות נוצריות מסוימות בעולם, הרואות את ההתפתחויות במזרח התיכון ובירושלים דרך השקפת עולם דתית צרה ואפוקליפטית. קבוצה זאת, לה אנו קוראים 'אוונגליסטים', הם אלה שמערבבים פוליטיקה בדת ודת בפוליטיקה. למרבה הצער, כל המלחמות, הבעיות, עקירות האוכלוסין, ההרס וחוסר הצדק במזרח התיכון, הם בעיניהם הקדמה לבואו השני של המשיח."

הבישוף יונאן הוסיף, "אנו, לעומת זאת, האוונגליסטים האמתיים – ובכלל זה האוונגליסטים הערבים – אינינו מסכימים בשום צורה, לא במילים ולא ברוח הדברים, עם אותן הקבוצות אשר אינן מצדדות בצדק, ואשר מחדירות פוליטיקה לתוך הדת בעזרת תרחישים הזויים ותלושים מהמציאות לגבי המזרח התיכון."

"אף כי לחלקם יש השפעה על מקבלי החלטות בארצות הברית, אנו, הערבים הנוצרים, רואים בקבוצה הזו נציגיה של קיצוניות דתית ופוליטית, ולא כמי שמייצג את הנצרות האמתית. לקבוצה הזו אין כל הבנה של מהות הצדק ואין לה שום עניין בזכויות אדם." יונאן המשיך: "כשם שהוד מלכותו [מלך ירדן] התנער מקבוצת מחבלים קלת דעת אשר אינה מייצגת את האיסלאם האמתי, וכינה אותם ח'וארג' (מודרים) [וראו הערה 1], אנו הערבים הנוצרים מתנערים מקבוצה נוצרית זו, שאינה מייצגת לא את התנ"ך ולא את ישוע. עבורנו הם ח'וארג', מודרים מהכנסייה."

הצהרתו של הבישוף יונאן התקבלה בברכה ובתמיכה בקרב הנוכחים במעמד, ובכללם ראשי הכנסיות בירושלים, אשר השתתפו, בהזמנתו של הוד מלכותו עבדאללה השני, באירוע לרגל חג המולד באתר הטבילה של ישוע המשיח, ביום ראשון ה-17 בדצמבר 2017.

כל ראשי הכנסיות הדגישו בנאומיהם כי הוד מלכותו עבדאללה השני הוא שומר המקומות הקדושים לנוצרים ולמוסלמים בירושלים, והם הפצירו בהוד מלכותו להגן על אתרים אלה באו"ם, אונסק"ו, בבית הדין הבינלאומי ובפורומים בינלאומיים אחרים.

הוד מלכותו הביע את הערכתו כלפי הכנסיות וכלפי מנהלת ההקדשים האיסלאמיים בירושלים על כך שהן מכבדות את חוזה עומר [וראו הערה 2], אשר הנחיל בעיר הקודש את ערכי הדו קיום והשלום, עוד במאה השביעית.

פטריארך ירושלים היווני האורתודוכסי, תיאופילוס השלישי, הכריז כי הוד מלכותו הינו "יורש חוזה עומר, אשר הניח את התשתית לדו קיום מוסלמי-נוצרי ואפשר את קיומה של תרבות משגשגת, איסלאמית ונוצרית, בארצותינו הקדושות." הוא הדגיש, "העקרונות החשובים ביותר בחוזה עומר הם שכנסיית הקבר הקדוש היא לנוצרים ומסגד אל-אקצא/אל-חרם א-שריף [הר הבית] הוא למוסלמים. מתוקף כך, כנסיות ירושלים לא יהססו להגן על האתרים המקודשים לאסלאם, כשם שהווקף האיסלאמי מגן על ביטחוננו ועל רכושנו כל אימת שמאיימים עלינו."

המנהל האפוסטולי של הפטריארכיה הלטינית בירושלים, הארכיבישוף פייר-באטיסטה פיצבלה, הביע את הערכתו כלפי עמידתו הממושכת של הוד מלכותו על שמירת הסטטוס קוו בירושלים ועל כך שמעניק "יחס לקהילות הנוצרים ותומך בחיי המוסדות המייצגים אותם."

מנכ"ל מנהלת ההקדשים האיסלאמיים בירושלים, שיח' עזאם אל-ח'טיב, אמר "מעשי ההשחתה של קיצונים יהודים ביותר מ-53 כנסיות בירושלים ובפלסטין, במסגרת מה שנקרא פיגועי 'תג מחיר', אינם שונים מההרס של אלפי קברים מוסלמים ושתילתם של אלפי קברים מזויפים של יהודים על אדמת ווקף איסלאמי." הוא הוסיף כי "הפרות אלו מהוות ראיה ברורה לכך שהמטרה היא למחוק כל אתר קודש או מסורת בעיר הקודש שאינו יהודי." אל-ח'טיב גם חזר על האמירה כי "(הווקף) רואה בכל פגיעה בהקדשים הנוצריים מתקפה על מסגד אל-אקצא ועל הווקף האיסלאמי."

דימא כראדשה, חברת מועצת הכנסיות העולמית, הסבירה כי מה שכונה פיגועי תג המחיר של יהודים קיצוניים כללו גרפיטי פוגעני כלפי כל הנוצרים, ובכלל זה ישוע המשיח, עליו השלום.

המנהיגים הדתיים הביעו את תמיכתם בנאומו האחרון של הוד מעלתו בפסגה החריגה של הארגון לשיתוף הפעולה איסלאמי, ולהכרזתו של המלך כי זכותם של המוסלמים והנוצרים לירושלים היא נצחית."

Awqaf thanks Jerusalem Churches that Evangelical Christian-Zionism is against Bible and Jesus

Director General of Jerusalem Awqaf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs deeply thanks Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land Dr. Munib Younan for the Bishop’s position and clarification on December 17th that Evangelicals who support Trump’s decision on Jerusalem are against the Bible. Yunan state: “[t]he positions of our Christian churches around the world are in support of justice and peace in Jerusalem.” However, Yunan maintained that “Christians also face some Christian groups in the world that view the developments in the Middle East and Jerusalem from a narrow religious apocalyptic perspective. This group, whom we refer as Evangelicals, are the ones who politicize religion and “religionize” politics. Unfortunately, they view the wars, concerns, displacements, destruction and injustice in the Middle East, as a precursor to the second coming of the Messiah.”
“However, we, the true Evangelicals, including the Arab Evangelicals, completely disagree in letter and in spirit with these groups who do not support justice, and who politicise religion with misconceived and unrealistic scenarios about the Middle East,” added Bishop Yunan.
“Although some of them may have influence over decision makers in the United States, we, Arab Christians, view this group as representative of extremism religiously and politically, not as a representative of true Christianity. This group does not comprehend justice nor does it care about human rights.” Yunan continued to say that “just as Your Majesty has disavowed a misguided terrorist group that does not represent true Islam, describing them as khawarej (outlaws), we, Arab Christians, disavow this Christian group that does not represent the Bible nor Christ. To us they are khawarej, outlaws to the church.”
Bishop Yunan’s statement was welcomed and endorsed by attendees including the heads of Churches of Jerusalem, who participated in the Christmas event at the Baptism Site of Jesus Christ on Sunday 17th December 2017, at the invitation of His Majesty King Abdullah II.
In their speeches, all heads of Churches reaffirmed that His Majesty King Abdullah II is the Custodian of Jerusalem Christian and Muslim Holy Sites and they requested His Majesty to defend these sites in the UN, UNESCO, ICJ and other international forums.
His Majesty expressed appreciation for the churches and Islamic Awqaf of Jerusalem for honoring the Pact of Omar, which established the values of coexistence and peace in the holy city, dating back to the seventh century.
Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem Patriarch Theophilos III stated that His Majesty is “heir of the Pact of Omar, which laid the foundations of Muslim-Christian coexistence and maintained a flourishing Islamic and Christian civilization in our holy lands.” Emphasizing “the most important principles of the Pact of Omar: that the Church of the Holy Sepulchre is for Christians and Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif is for Muslims. Based on this fact, the Churches of Jerusalem will not hesitate to protect Islamic holy sites, just as the Jerusalem Awqaf protects our safety and property whenever we are threatened.”
The Apostolic Administrator of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem Archbishop Pierbattista Pizzaballa voiced his appreciation for His Majesty’s constant defense of the Status Quo of Jerusalem and for his “attention to the Christian communities and [His] concrete support for the life of the institutions that represent them.”
Director General of Jerusalem Awqaf Department Sheikh Azzam Al Khatib stated: “The Jewish extremists’ vandalism against over 53 churches in Jerusalem and Palestine, in the so-called price tag attacks, are not different from the destruction of thousands of Muslim graves and the implanting of thousands of Jewish fake Jewish graves on Islamic waqf land.” Adding that “[t]hese violations are clear evidence that the objective is to remove every holy site and heritage that is not Jewish in the holy city”. Al-Khatib also reaffirmed that “[Awqaf] consider any attack against Christian endowments to be an attack against Al Aqsa Mosque and the Islamic Awqaf.”
Dima Karadsheh’s, a member of the World Council of Churches, elaborated that the so called extremist Jewish price tag attacks included offensive graffiti targeting all Christians, including Jesus Christ, peace be upon him.
The religious leaders expressed support for His Majesty’s recent speech at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s extraordinary summit, and the King’s affirmation that the right of Muslims and Christians to Jerusalem is eternal.
